To Race or Not To Race

Just a shorty today. I strained my left calf muscle on a short slow run earlier this week and have been limping a bit. It's still tight. RnR AZ is scheduled for Sunday. I'm doubtful about my chances of being healthy enough to do it. Crap. I'm not so down about this, but it is kind of a bummer. I have had this calf problem it seems each of the three years I have been running, but it's been a while since it has flared up. I have been running with good form, but the morning the injury occurred, I was running with Norman the choc lab puppy and he was tugging and pulling and twisting and turning. Anyway.....

Only you know what you really want to do and what you're capable of doing. Maybe drinking beer with your lab sounds like a better option. If I was closer I'd join you.

That's a bummer. I can't imagine getting hurt right before a race. I wasn't going to run because I didn't think I could get ready in time. Now I feel bad that I'm not. But, I'm not about to pay $140 to run a half. I offered one guy $40 for his race bib. If you want to recoup some of your money, let me know. (patmonahan1@gmail.com)

Calves can be tricky! Sorry to hear about the injury. Bummer. :(

That's a real bummer, can you get a massage and see if you can get it worked out? Maybe do some good stretching? I run with my dog too and she knocked me down recently, so I know how hazardous it can be now and again. I'm hoping for the best for you, are you doing the full or half?

Running with a dog is difficult! My dog likes to zig-zag, mainly (I think) to trip me. If you already paid for it, I say, why not. Do what you can, at a very easy pace, and get some of your moneys worth. and just have fun. :)

I have been dealing with calf strains every 3 months for 2 years now. It is incredibly frustrating. I'm now starting a 1:2:3 ratio running 6 days a week (counterintuitive at first) and got trigger point and compression socks. Hope that's the answer. The 1:2:3 idea is at my blog under somthing like "drinking the koolaid" but was developed by BarryP at slowtwitch.com
